California's Pitzer College, one of the Claremont Colleges, is adding a major in secular studies, beginning this fall. Faculty member Jeff Zuckerman suggested the new area of study, which looks like it will be interdisciplinary, and will be reviewed after four years. In an article about the subject, the New York Times says the College is creating a new department but I couldn't find that information on the institution's website. Dr. Zuckerman is the author of Society Without God (NYU Press, 2008) and Atheism and Secularity (Praeger, 2010). Perhaps someone associated with Pitzer can clarify.
