Captain Matt Espicopo integrates law enforcement into his magic performances and sometimes uses magic when he's on the job. This member of IBM and SAM "is known for his professional demeanor and speaking ability performing before audiences of all ages at all kinds of events. He entertains close up to his audience, with the magic actually happening right in the hands of the people he is entertaining...."
Last year, Episcopo started intermingling his magic and law enforcement professions in special themed performances, he said. “I didn’t know of any other magicians who were also into law enforcement so I decided to use that to my advantage,” Episcopo recalled. “I’ll tell people I want to feel more comfortable at the beginning of a performance and then run crime scene tape around the table. I make the shows feel like episodes of CSI, and I‘m even working on a lie detector routine.”
...A favorite performance was when he visited Carville, Louisiana in January 2006 while deployed with the Disaster Mortuary Operations Response Team, a federal disaster team providing mobile morgue operations, search/recovery, and forensic evaluations during times of mass casualties, in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. There, Episcopo performed a magic show for his fellow DMORT team members, and received a standing ovation.
Even in the dire straits facing them in Louisiana, people started talking about “Magic Matt” who relieved their stress during the difficult conditions and brought them to laughter . In New Orleans, Episcopo even opened a show for Harry Anderson at his speakeasy, Oswald’s.
