According to CNN.com, Atheist Ireland is challenging a new law that went into effect on January 1, which prohibits the publication of anything ""grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion." Those accused of breaking the law can mount a defense by showing literary, artistic, political, scientific or academic merit in their speech. Here's comment on the new law from Padraig Reidy.
