More On Pluto

With regard to my Pluto post yesterday, Laurel Kornfeld makes the point in a comment that Pluto was demoted by a minority of astrophysicists from planetary status and scolds me for "present[ing] only one side as reality when this is far from being the case." Although I didn't think I was doing that, I've published her comment. What I did think I was doing was recommending Dr. Tyson's book which I found interesting, whether or not one agreed with it. Dr. Tyson actually does discuss the dispute at some length and note that the decision was made by a minority of folks. At any rate, I don't want to get into a discussion over Pluto's status here (or in fact, anywhere). That issue is better left to other fora, including science blogs. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Thank you for publishing my comment. I didn't mean to "scold" you, only to assure that your readers are aware that Tyson's book represents only one side of this debate and encourage people to read another book alongside it to get both perspectives.
