As it turns out, Robert Speer of Woodstock, Georgia, does practice magic, although he doesn't mention it on his website. His website developer lets the rabbit out of the hat here.
Woodstock, Georgia attorney, Robert Speer is an amateur magician. He often uses his love of magic and illusion to put his clients at ease in a meeting. He fans out a deck of playing cards with their faces towards you and asks you to pick one. You turn it over and it's his business card on the back.
He wanted to carry this theme into a makeover of his old web site, knowing this it would spark attention. Few people forget Robert once they have had the pleasure of meeting him, and few visitors will forget the interactive flash inset, which fades different views of the magician from behind the smoke and lightning when the links are moused over. The profile page features a spot of video, shown with Flash, where Robert introduces himself with a bit of illusion and a special message to visitors.
Yes, I am also a magician. I am presently the Vice President of the [Fantastic] Georgia Magic Club (which is also Ring 9 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians). I rarely perform stage magic, but do alot of close-up (especially with cards -- I have my own, which also serve as by "business card.") I have been very careful to keep the magic separate from the courtroom, so as to make sure that I am seen as "Lawyer" first, and "Magician" second. I perform numerous card effects in my office for clients to cheer them up - - - and it works! I also do shows at my home, which has a small theatre in it. I have learned alot from my fellow magicians (Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger are my teachers) about presentation, illusion, and the human mind. This knowledge is most helpful in the practice of law. Thank you for your blog and for your interest in me.
Magically Yours,
Robert Speer, The Magic Lawyer®
