Advertising On TV

Stephen Armstrong discusses AMC's cult hit Mad Men, which has made the jump across the pond. Advertising's always been popular in popular culture; see for example movies such as the Doris Day-Rock Hudson flick Lover, Come Back, the Jack Lemmon vehicle Good Neighbor Sam, and the James Garner-Doris Day comedy The Thrill Of It All. Then there's the part that advertising plays in tv series: Darrin Stephens is Samantha's husband in Bewitched and he's always trying to land that Big Account. Invariably, someone sneaks around, spying or infiltrating, and breaks some law in these films or tv episodes. Just grist for the mill.

Not Mad About the Boy

Russia's Communist Party (yes, there still is a Communist Party in Russia) is upset about its image in the new Indiana Jones film just opening wide, "saying it aims to undermine communist ideology and distort history," according to this CNN story. According to the CP, "the Soviet Union in 1957 "`did not send terrorists to the States,' but launched a satellite, `which evoked the admiration of the whole world.'" What was that again about distorting history?

A Parody of a Parody

Here's a re-enactment of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, done by bunnies (30 seconds). Even if you think it's awful, it's short.

More bunny re-enactments here.
